NCR Staff Bio
Name:
Patrick Green
What is your job at NCR and when did you start here?
I am the program and music director and web site manager. Host on the morning show . I have been on board since May 2004.
Tell us about your family and pets.
Very Happily Married since 1991 to Cindy. Kids: Matthew, Josh and Cianna. We run a small animal sanctuary (kind of a mini Noah's Ark): 2 dogs (Heather and Mitch) Cat (Ari) and Horse (Caela).
What is your favorite Bible Verse? Ephesians 4:29 - "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful in building others up accoring to his needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
I try to use this verse to focus what I do on the radio, to be uplifting and encouraging. A good friend brought this verse to my attention when I was first trying to get into Christian Radio and it has stuck with me ever since.
Where else have you lived and worked?
Wow, how much room do I have? I grew up as an Air Force Brat living in New Mexico, San Antonio Texas, Boston Massachusetts and Tokyo Japan. I went to college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and lived there the longest after school. Also lived in Nederland Texas (gulf Coast), Pampa Texas (Texas panhandle) and most recently in Meade Kansas (southwest Kansas) until moving to Northern Michigan.
How did you get started in Christian Radio?
When I became a Christian at 13, the other believers I surrounded myself with listened to Christian Music so they got me started. We then formed a Christian Band and were able to perform at church services. By that time all I listened to was Christian Music and was really feeling like something in Christian music was where the Lord wanted me to serve. When I lived in Japan, I was asked to help start a Christian Radio show on the Armed Forces Radio station there but through legal reason I was not able to. But God used that as a way of showing me how he wanted to use me. (plus I wasn't very good as a musician). I studied broadcasting in school and after a few years in country radio, I was given the opportunity to work at a Christian Station in Kansas and now here in Michigan.
Name your favorite artists.
Where do I start? I have a large Christian music collection dating back to the late 60's. In my teens I loved and still do listen to Randy Stonehill, Larry Norman, Petra and Amy Grant. But my tastes have grown as I have. I enjoy the music of the late Mark Heard and Rich Mullins. I also love listening to Jeremy Camp, Mercy Me, Newsboys, Sara Groves, Caedmon's Call and more. I really have such a broad interest in music, it is hard to put a finger on favorites. I like most of it.
If you could do anything else for a living, what else would you do?
Although I never saw myself as being creative as a kid, I would probably aspire to be a Carpenter or a Musician if I wasn't in Christian Radio. But I would probably be a starving Carpenter or Musician, because I have never really had a nack for either of these hobbies/profession.
